Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

The first issue of the “Elm” newspaper for September, the weekly press organ of the Presidium of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), has been published.

The front page of the newspaper features President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev’s Decree “On Additional Measures Regarding the Use of Targeted Budget Funds Established within the State Budget and Extra-Budgetary Funds of Organizations Financed from the State Budget” and Order “On Awarding Aziz Sancar the ‘Shohrat’ Order.”

The issue features articles on a scientific conference dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Nobel Prize laureate, Professor Aziz Sancar, held at ANAS with the participation of President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli; a literary and artistic event entitled “Science, Literature and Social Life,” organized by ANAS scholars at the Samed Vurgun House of Creativity of the Azerbaijan Writers’ Union (AWU); the 14th International Symposium of Altaic Communities held at ANAS; and a visit to the Azykh Cave, one of the earliest human settlements.

The issue also features information on meetings held by President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, with President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Corresponding Member Evelina Slavcheva, and members of the Presidium of that academic institution; with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to Azerbaijan Alim Bayel; and with Abdulhakeem Alsenan, Head of the UNESCO Office in Baku. It also includes a letter addressed to Academician Isa Habibbeyli by the Academic Council of Hebei Normal University of the People’s Republic of China on the occasion of his election as an Honorary Professor of the university.

In addition, the newspaper presents statements entitled “One of the Important Missions of the Digital State Is to Ensure Linguistic Sovereignty” and “Scientific Research on Kyrgyzstan Is Expanding at the Institute of Oriental Studies,” articles titled “An Example of Scholarship, Intellectualism and Citizenship” and “The Secret of the Stone Chronicle of Ilan Dag Is Being Revealed,” as well as news reflecting the public life of the Academy.

The Russian- and English-language sections of the newspaper feature the topical interview “From the Drilling Rig to the Digital Twin,” as well as a review and news reports covering important events held at the Academy over the past week.
