Isa Habibbeyli: Seyyid Yahya Bakuvi Is the Gateway of Azerbaijani Spirituality to the World

The teachings of Seyyid Yahya Bakuvi on spiritual perfection and spiritual purification have made a significant contribution over the centuries to the dissemination of the ideals of justice, humanism, compassion, and peace.

President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), Academician Isa Habibbeyli, made these remarks during his speech at the 1st International Conference on “The Pinnacle of Seyyid Yahya Bakuvi in the Cultural Heritage of the Islamic World: Moderate Values and Contemporary Challenges.”

The Academician noted that the main directions, ideals, and ideas of the spiritual purification and perfection of humanity, the Muslim world, and the Turkic world are reflected in a comprehensive manner in more than 20 of Seyyid Yahya Bakuvi’s scholarly and religious-ideological works, as well as in his ghazals.

“President Ilham Aliyev’s comprehensive policy aimed at preserving national and spiritual values in the country, bringing literary and historical heritage back to the forefront, and promoting its development has created important opportunities for the Khalwatiyya order, whose name was elevated by Seyyid Yahya Bakuvi, to be studied anew and to gain a new lease on life during the years of independence.

The efforts undertaken by First Vice-President of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva to restore, improve, and promote internationally historical sites associated with the name of Seyyid Yahya Bakuvi, particularly the Khalwatiyya complex, have also played an important role in communicating the existing realities in this field to the international community.

I would particularly like to note with gratitude that the heritage of Seyyid Yahya Bakuvi was highlighted at an international conference held under the auspices of UNESCO through the efforts of Ms. Mehriban Aliyeva and presented to humanity,” the Academician said.

The President of ANAS noted that the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences is also contributing to the study and research of various Sufi orders in the country, including the Khalwatiyya order and the heritage of Seyyid Yahya Bakuvi, its founder and one of its principal figures.
