Today, Institute of Literature named after Nizami Ganjavi of ANAS hosted for the presentation of “Azerbaijan literature of the independence period” book devoted to 25th anniversary of state independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

At the event, Vice-President of ANAS, director of the Institute of Literature, Academician Isa Habibbeyli stated that, the book investigates formation of literature in the years of independence, its common features and modern development tendencies, as well as essays have been devoted to main creative figures of literature. The edition compiles 15 chapters, tens of outlines and portrait sketches, including hundreds of subheadings, he noted.

Academician Isa Habibeyli stressed out that, at the 70th jubilee of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences President Ilham Aliyev suggested to our scientists to publish a book on the occasion of 25th anniversary of state independence. Aforementioned book is a response to Mr. President’s challenge and a jubilee gift for 25th anniversary of state independence.

The new edition is opened with “Preface” paper dubbed “An honorable way of independence and literature of independence” by Acad. Isa Habibbeyli, the scientific author of the book. The paper clarifies the literature, which is characterized by social-political and historical-cultural situation in the period of independence. National leader Heydar Aliyev’s mission of salvation Azerbaijan people from deep abyss and his role in formation of new literature is brought to mind in the paper. Moreover, paper clarifies the nature of the literature in the period of independence, its typological features, creative principles and methods, trends and prospects of the development.

The first volume of the book is defined as "The literature of the independence period in the 1990s" and the emergence of independence literature is given as "transition literature”. The second volume narrates about contemporary literature beginning from XXI century, referring to the "literature of the independence period in the modern stage".

Two-volume book “Azerbaijan literature of the independence period” has been developed at the cognominal department of the Literature Institute by close participation of employees of other departments as well. Totally, 45 authors worked on the book.

Scientific editor of the book is Academician Isa Habibbeyli, responsible editor – Dr. Philology Tehran Alishanoghlu.

Then, Tehran Alishanoghlu made a presentation on “Azerbaijan literature of independence period: stages, challenges, faces”.

Director of Atatturk Center in Azerbaijan corresponding member of ANAS Nizami Jafarov, director of the Folklore Institute corresponding member of ANAS Mukhtar Imanov, secretary of AWU editor-in-chief at “525-ci gezet” Rashad Majid, Dr. Philology Gazanfar Pashayev and others spoke about the importance of the presented book.
