November 14, at the Presidium of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences was held International Conference on the theme "Shared values and new challenges in Turkological scientific-cultural movement”.
At a conference lecture on topic "The first Turkological Congress: its lessons and challenges" was made by the Vice-President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli. Academician noted that first Turkological congress, held in 1926 in Baku, is a public event, opening wide horizons for scientific and cultural unity of the Turkic peoples, the development of common national and moral values, the deepening of integration processes. Isa Habibbeyli stressed that at this congress were discussed topical issues Turkological scientific and cultural environment in the beginning of the twentieth century: "The reports that were presented at the meetings of the First Turkological Congress, reflected the actual problems of the humanities and social sciences, Turkic studies, have been put forward concrete offers. Participation in the Congress of the representatives of the Turkic-speaking peoples in the former Soviet Union, scientists Turkic studies from Europe, Turkey and Iran allows a clear idea of the breadth and scope of the congress. Carrying Turkological First Congress in Baku shows that Azerbaijan is one of the main centers of Turkic studies in the broadest sense of the word."
Academician noted that the active participation at the First Turkological Congress the Azerbaijani intelligentsia evidence about the origin and formation of the country's major scientific and creative forces, not only in the field of linguistics and literature, history, culture, folklore, ethnography and education. Isa Habibbeyli added that the issues rose by the representatives of Azerbaijan, and the ideas put forward by them were instrumental in determining the rod and the main directions of the First Turkological Congress.
Academician recalled that since Turkology science is not consistent with the rule of Soviet ideology, in the socio-political environment of the Soviet Union, she was treated with great concern and suspicion: "Almost all the major participants in the First Turkological Congress, representing the Soviet Union, faced serious harassment, were sentenced to detention or exile. However, despite all the difficulties, ideas and appeals of the First Congress Turkological never lost its value. "
In his report Academician also touched upon the issue sounded atthe First Turkological Congress to pass sentence on the Latin alphabet. He noted that the transition to the Latin alphabet was implemented at the beginning of the twentieth century in Azerbaijan and Turkey, but later in the Soviet Union, this process has been suspended. Having said that, the idea was revived again, academician noted that a special decree of the national leader Heydar Aliyev dated August 1, 2001, Azerbaijan completely switched to the Latin alphabet in the era of independence of Azerbaijan.
In conclusion, academician Isa Habibbeyli report also stressed the importance of President Ilham Aliyev on February 18, 2016 "On holding the 90th anniversary of the First Turkological Congress": "The celebration of the 90th anniversary of the First Turkological Congress at the highest level and the determination of modern problems give impetus to the development of humanitarian Sciences in Azerbaijan and in the whole Turkic world, including all branches of science Turkological system. This, in turn, will lead to further enrich the world of science, the emergence of new work in the field of development of integration processes at the international level aimed at the new achievements, and the opening of new horizons in the future."
