A few days after the decree, on August 12, great leader Heydar Aliyev came to Nakhchivan and held a meeting dedicated to the establishment of Nakhchivan Branch of ANAS. Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Supreme Council discussed the necessity of establishing the Nakhchivan Branch.

According to the decree, established 6 research institutes at ANAS Nakhchivan Branch - History, Ethnography and Archeology Institute of Art, Language and Literature, Natural Resources Institute, Institute of Bioresources, Batabat Astrophysics Observatory and Manuscripts Fund was established.

Over the past period 182 books, 172 monographs, 37 booklets, 20 methodical aids, 18 maps, 200 theses, 4 recommendations, 6591 scientific articles were published. 18 books, 16 monographs, 65 theses, 1410 scientific articles were published in foreign editions. Also 28 patents have been received.

The department collaborates with a number of prestigious scientific centers of the world alongside with the scientific-research institutes of ANAS. So, signed agreements on cooperation between ANAS Nakhchivan Branch and Krakow branch of Polish Academy of Sciences, between Bioresources Institute of Department and "Botany" Scientific-Production Center of Uzbekistan Academy of Sciences, among History, Archeology and Ethnography Institute and French National Scientific Research Center of Archeology Laboratory, between the Manuscript Foundation And the Institute of Manuscripts named after M.Fuzuli joint work has been done.

During the past period 74 sessions of "Heydar Aliev's center" were held. Within the framework of the project "Interactive open lesson" for the first time in the country were organized on different subjects between Nakhchivan Branch of ANAS and Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
