Archaeological excavations of monuments of the Bronze Age held in the Yardimli region

In the course of archaeological excavations conducted in the territory of Yardimli region have been discovered new monuments by archeological expedition led by the leading scientific employee of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of ANAS, Doctor of Philosophy in History, Associate Professor Anar Agalarzadeh.

Excavations were carried out on the territory of Saribulag’s pastures, in numerous funerary monuments, as well as burial mounds and stone graves located at an altitude of 2000 m above sea level. In the barrows there were numerous fragments of ceramics, tools, outbreaks and bones of animals. It is assumed that the investigated funerary monuments are of a ritual character, belonged to the period of late bronze - early iron and were inherent in this region.

A.Agalarzadeh noted that, on the territory there were 2 types of mounds - complex barrows with stone covering and mounds with a stone burial chamber. These monuments are important facts for tracing spiritual culture and funeral customs of people engaged in pastoral cattle breeding in the late II - early I millennium BC (late bronze - early iron).

The archaeologist noted that, the remains of coal and animal bones taken from tombstones are submitted to the relevant laboratories. He stressed that the discovery on the territory of the monuments of the Kurgan type of the Late Bronze Age - Early Iron is of great importance.

According to A.Agalarzadeh, ancient settlements were discovered during archaeological excavations in the pastures of Elbei, Jalalyurdu, Shahnishin, Derekechmez. And this is a clear confirmation of the fact that for thousands of years the Azerbaijani people preserve and observe traditions in their economic life.
