Congratulations on the remarkable Azerbaijani historian Musa Gasimli on his 60th jubilee!

Today, the outstanding Azerbaijani historian, MP, director of the Institute of Caucasian Studies, correspondent member of ANAS Musa Gasimli is 60.

Musa Gasimli was born on October 28, 1957 in Hamarkand, Yardimli. In 1974 he graduated from secondary school and entered the History faculty of the Azerbaijan State University (present Baku State University). In 1979, M.Gasimli was sent to Yardimli region.

In 1982-1985, he studied postgraduate of the Department of New and Modern History of the European and American Countries of Baku State University.

In 1986-1992, he worked as a teacher, senior lecturer, assistant professor, deputy dean of history faculty at the department of new and modern history of European and American countries of BSU.

In 1992-1997 he worked at the International Relations Department of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

He is the deputy of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan (2010-2015; 2015-2020). He is a member of the Milli Majlis's Science and Education Committee.

In 2004, he worked at the George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, USA.

By the decision of the Presidium of ANAS, in 2016 was appointed Director of the Institute of Caucasian Studies.

 The historian has written valuable works in archives of Azerbaijan, Russia, Turkey, USA, Georgia, Austria, Czech Republic and Great Britain. His first great research work was dedicated to the international cultural relations of Azerbaijan during after the period of the Second World War till the collapse of the USSR. In 1993 he published his work "Azerbaijan's Problems in International Relations". The book is the first research in this field in Azerbaijani historiography.

Professor Musa Gasimly also studied diplomatic and political relations of Azerbaijan with foreign countries, including Turkey. For the first time in the country, he has written three volumes of monographs examining the policy of the great states in the First World War. For the first time in Azerbaijan, he has studied and prepared the Armenian armed band under the name of "volunteer" on the Caucasus front.

He has published 14 monographs and 82 scientific articles in authoritative magazines devoted to the problems that have not yet been explored in many foreign countries in foreign languages.

The scientist is the author of the International Relations History course material for higher education institutions, the contemporary history textbook of the European and American countries, and the subject curriculum.

M.Gasimli is a member of the Middle East Studies Association (Arizona University), a member of the Central Eurasia Studies Society (Harvard University)  and an active member of the International Academy of Sciences in Ukraine. He is a member of  "Romanian Euroasian Studies" (Romania), "Caucasus and Central Asia Studies", "Turan SAM", "Turkish Science", "Ataturk Way" (Turkey), "European Economist Studios: magazine" and other scientific journals.

Under the guidance of Professor Musa Gasymly, 18 candidates were nominated and 3 PhDs were awarded with the "Excellent Educator" badge of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2009.

We congratulate the eminent scientist who has invaluable service in the development of historical science in our country on the occasion of the 60th jubilee, wish him health and creative successes in the direction of prosperity of our science!
