The kinematic parameters of tectonic movements of Azerbaijan regions

ANAS Institute of Geology and Geophysics (IGG) a nationwide scientific seminar held in the field of Earth Sciences on "Kinematic parameters of tectonic movements in the South-Eastern part of the Greater Caucasus and nearby regions (based on new paleo magnetic data)".

At the meeting, Dadash Huseynov, Deputy Director for scientific Affair of IHG, correspondent member of ANAS, in his speech, spoke about the importance of the conducted studies. It was noted that, the report was prepared by the head of the Department of Geomagnetism, Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, Professor Manizha Isayeva and Ph.D. in Geological and Mineralogical Sciences Tahmina Garayeva.

It was noted that, paleomagnetic research methods are widely used in solving tectonic problems, studying local deformation and rotation of individual massifs, problems associated with horizontal motions of lithospheric plates, and global reconstructions.

The results of complex studies of volcanic-sedimentary and sedimentary rocks of the Mesozoic Cenozoic make it possible to compare regions with a similar geological structure, synchronize and reconstruct geological events on a large scale, and obtain more meaningful information about the history of the geomagnetic field in the corresponding time interval.

The reporter noted that, from the Lahich, Vendam and Sumagalin sections, as well as the Khodjasen, Khudbarekdag and Beyuk Dahne depressions of the southeastern slope of the Greater Caucasus, the Goychay, Turyanchay and Hirzan sections of the upper part of the Kura depression, Korgez and Garangush slits and the Gurd Gapisi section of the Absheron Peninsula samples and studies are being conducted aimed at studying the kinematic parameters of the motions of blocks of sections.

T.Garayeva brought to attention that according to the results of the research, the speed of the horizontal movement of blocks from east to west has been increased. She stressed that, these movements are connected with the maximum assessment of tensions characteristic of the Greater Caucasus and geodynamic activity. The scientist noted that the structure of blocks of the territory studied on the basis of paleomagnetic data was approved: "The speed of horizontal movement of individual blocks is different. This is due to the fact that the collision of individual parts of the earth's crust leads to a considerable deformation of the edges of the mountain massifs. "

The report aroused great interest of the participants of the event.
