ANAS Department of Earth Sciences held next meeting

Institute of Geology and Geophysics hosted a meeting of the Department of Earth Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan on January 16.

Meeting was opened by academician-secretary of the department academician Fakhraddin Gadirov. He noted that, that last year the department carried out practical work aimed at developing fundamental and applied scientific research, analyzing and forecasting the state of modern research in the field of Earth sciences in the republic and the world, strengthening ties between scientific institutions and educational institutions, as well as expanding international relations.

He noted that, in the reporting year work was also carried out within the framework of the State Program for Social and Economic Development of the Regions of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2014-2018, the State Program for the Development of Industry in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2015-2020, the Decree on Approval the main directions of the strategic roadmap for the national economy and the main sectors of the economy "and other official documents signed by the head of state.

F.Gadirov informed that, during the reporting period, the research institutes of the department carried out research on 41 issues covering 14 problems and 7 important results were achieved.

The scientist stressed that in 2017 the staff of the institutions of the National Academy of Sciences completed the implementation of multidisciplinary research programs "Biogeochemical regionalization and regional forecasting of the level of health of the population of Azerbaijan", "Atlas of solar energy of Azerbaijan" and "Complex of theoretical and experimental studies of interdisciplinary problems of geomechanics".

Academician noted that last year the institute's branches received grants from the Science Development Foundation under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Science Foundation of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan, Azerkosmos OJSC, the Science and Technology Center of Ukraine and UNESCO.

He said that, in 2017 the scientists of the department published 16 monographs, 299 articles and 100 abstracts (128 abroad, 60 articles of which were published in journals with the impact factor).

Noting that, international relations are developing at a high level this year, F.Gadirov stressed that, with the Scientific and Technological Center of Ukraine, Russian State University of Oil and Gas after I.M.Gubkin, National Science Foundation of Switzerland, National Research Council of Italy and other organizations are implementing joint programs.

Scientist stressed that, guided by the calls of the 20th century and the priorities set by the President of the country to science, in the coming years, studies in the field of Earth sciences in Azerbaijan will continue.

Then, discussions were held on the important results achieved by scientists from research institutions working in the field of Earth sciences. During the discussions Vice-President of ANAS, Academician Ibrahim Guliyev, Director of the Institute of Geography, Academician Ramiz Mammadov, Director of the Republican Seismic Survey Center, Correspondent member of ANAS Gurban Etirmishli and other speakers made their comments and suggestions.

In conclusion, were considered a number of current issues.
