The conference "January 20 is a symbol of our freedom and national will"

ANAS Nakhchivan Division held the scientific conference "January 20 is a symbol of our freedom and national will", dedicated to the 28th anniversary of the January 20 tragedy.

In the beginning by the minute of silence was honored the memory of the martyrs.

At the event, the chairman of the Division, Academician Ismail Hajiyev  noted that, the tragedy of January 20 was implemented as a result of the insidious policy of the pro-Armenian leadership of the USSR directed against the Azerbaijani people. This date entered the history of Azerbaijan not only as a tragedy, but also as the peak of heroism.

I.Hajiyev stressed that, at that time our country was in the information blockade, namely the bold statement of the national leader Heydar Aliyev in the Azerbaijani representation in Moscow brought to the world community the events that took place in Baku.

Then, were listening the reports of the senior researcher of the Institute of History, Ethnography and Archeology of the Department, PhD in the history Yashar Rahimov on "The socio-political situation in Azerbaijan on the eve of the January 20 tragedy", head of the Department of the Institute, corresponding member of ANAS Veli Bakhshaliyev on "National leader Heydar Aliyev and the tragedy of January 20", head of the Department, PhD in the history Togrul Khalilov on "The tragedy of January 20 is a crime against humanity", senior researcher of the Department of Literary Studies of the Institute of Art, Language and Literature, Ph.D in philology Aygun Orujeva on "Events of January 20 in fiction".

The event brought to attention the poem "Shekhid" by Bakhtiyar Vahabzade, "Marcia" by Gabil, "Rise, Azerbaijan" by Mammad Araz, "Cry, Carnation, cry" by Mammad Aslan, as well as "Shahidism" by Asim Yadigar, "Unity" by Hanali Karimli, "Crying of Sadarak" by Vagif Mammadov and poems of other poets from this cycle.

At the exhibition the E-library are displayed the "January 20" books, newspapers and journals.
