Austrian scientists visited the Institute of Geography

Representatives of the University of Montana and Graz University of Technology visited the ANAS Institute of Geography (IG).

The goal is to study the paleogeographic conditions of the Miocene period.

Director of the Institute, academician Ramiz Mammadov noted that, the visit will give impetus to the development of scientific and practical cooperation between the three structures.

Then, Head of the Department of Geology of Petroleum of the University of Montana, Professor Reinhard Sachsenhofer, Head of the Department of the Graz University of Technology, Professor André Baldermann, Head of the Paleogeography Department of the IG, Dr.Sc. in Geology Elena Tagiyeva, Research Fellow of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Ph.D. in Earth Sciences Shafag Bayramova and employee of BP Caspian company Nazim Abdullayev.

Further, at the scientific seminar of the Institute of Geography A.Baldermann made a report on the topic "Paleoclimate of the Miocene of Eastern Paratethis". The presented report reflects the joint studies conducted by the Institute of Applied Geosciences of Graz University of Technology and the Department of Paleogeography of the IG. To this end, mineralogical and geochemical analyzes were carried out at the university.

Within the framework of the visit, the Austrian guests took part in a field expedition in the territories of Shamakhi-Gobustan and Islamdag, where they inspected areas of sediments on the surface of the Lower and Middle Miocene lands and discussed the possibilities for further cooperation.
