The 5th International Scientific Conference on "Genocide in the Twentieth Century against Turkic-Muslim Nations" kicked off

The conference was organized jointly by the Presidium of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), the ANAS Institute of History named after Bakikhanov, Ataturk Culture, Language and History Department at Ataturk Research Center under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Turkey, the Turkish Embassy in Azerbaijan and the Gusar Executive Authority.

Famous historians from Turkey, Russia, Poland, Albania, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, India and Irag are taking part in the event organized in accordance with President Ilham Aliyev’s Order "on the 100th anniversary of the 1918 genocide of Azerbaijanis".

Participants of the international conference first visited the monument to national leader Heydar Aliyev in Gusar and laid flowers to the front.

The opening ceremony of the conference was held at Gusar Cultural Center.

Firstly, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Social and Political Issues Ali Hasanov read President Ilham Aliyev's appeal to the conference participants.

Then the head of the Gusar District Executive Authority, Shair Alkhasov, emphasized the historical importance of the conference in Gusar and expressed confidence that the historical truths would be further explored.

The international scientific conference was an important step towards promoting the genocide against Turkic-Muslim peoples.The objective of bringing objective truths to the world community is the main target of scientists, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, vice-president of ANAS underlined in his speech.

Later, director of the Institute of History, acad. Yagub Mahmudov spoke about the tragedy experienced by the Azerbaijani people in the last two hundred years. He noted that the international genocide conferences of world historians held every year at the initiative of the President of the country, play an important role in revealing real historical facts, enriching history science with new facts and scientific summits.

The conference continued with other speeches.

The three-day event will be held in three sections. The first section deals with the "massacres against the Azerbaijani people in 1905-1906", "genocide against the Azerbaijani people in 1917-1920", "deportation of Azerbaijanis from their historical lands in the territory of the Armenian SSR in 1948-1953" and ect.

In the next two sections, the lectures will focus on the "genocide against the Turkic-Muslim population in Eastern Anatolia, Urmia, Salmas and Khoy regions in 1914-1920", "The genocide and deportations against the peoples of the Caucasus, Volgograd and Central Asia in the twentieth century.

The international scientific conference will be held on April 27.
