Prominent chemist of Azerbaijan, laboratory director of the Institute of Polymer Materials, laureate of "Shohrat", correspondent member of ANAS Yavuz Rustamov is 85 on May 9.

Yavuz Ismayil oglu Rustamov was born in 1933 in Ordubad, Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, in an intelligent family. In 1957, he graduated with honors from the Chemical Engineering Department of the Azerbaijan Industrial Institute named after M. Azizbeyov (present Oil and Industry University). Y.Rustamov has been working as laboratory director at the Institute of Polymer Materials of ANAS since 1969.

He was a Ph.D. in technical sciences in 1973, a scientific degree of Doctor of Technical Sciences in 1984, and a Professor of Science in 1994. In 2001 he was elected as a corresponding member of ANAS.

Theoretical bases of the chemical technology in its scientific work, the creation of the models of kinetic, hydrodynamic, heat and metabolic processes in multilevel systems, the formation of the mathematical models of chemical systems, the theoretical principles of the relationship between the chemical processes and the technological and hardware design are of particular importance.

Under the supervision of the scientist, new methods of granulating powdered substances, their polymer coatings, drying, and processes for the production of cellulose derivatives from various capsules from the capsule-forming polymers have been developed. It is necessary to emphasize the scientific foundation of the process of the acquisition of sodium-carboxymethylcellulose from various raw materials. The synthesis of this product, which is of great importance for the Republic, in the domestic raw material base, further enhances its importance for the country's economy.

The results of his research work are reflected in a monograph, about 200 scientific works and 20 copyright certificates. Professor Yavuz Rustamov's scientific works have been published in various cities of the former Soviet Union, as well as in Turkey, Iran and some other influential magazines. He has repeatedly participated in international conferences and congresses and successfully represented Azerbaijan in chemistry and technology with high level scientific reports at these scientific events.

Y.Rustamov was awarded the diploma and honorary decree of the USSR People's Economic Activities Exhibition "Silver Medal", "The inventor of the USSR" and the All-Union Chemical Society after D.Mendeleyev. For his contribution to the science of Azerbaijan, he was awarded the Order of “Shohrat”.
