Austrian scientist to research meteorite in Shamakhi Astrophysics Observatory

Professor Ludovic Ferriere, coordinator for the meteorological collection of the of Natural History Museum Vienna  (NHM), member of the International Society of Meteorites, visited Shamakhi Astrophysics Observatory named after N. Tusi of ANAS.

The guest was informed about the history, activity directions, telescopes of the observatory and the current scientific-research works and discussed prospects for joint cooperation.

During the visit L.Ferriere delivered a speech at the seminar.

The event was opened by Elchin Babayev, PHD on Physics and Mathematics, Deputy Director of Scientific Research, and presented the guest to the participants. Babayev said that the main purpose of Austrian scientist's visit is to re-analyze Yardimli meteorite, preserved in the ShAO Astronomy Museum, as well as enrich and clarify information about other meteorites. In addition, the Kulp meteorite found in 1906, in contrast to the claims of Armenians, is to be proved by evidence.

Later, the guest made a report on the subject "Meteorites and their impact crater on the Earth: what do we learn from them?".

Speaking about the meteorites found in Azerbaijan, the speaker underlined that small parts of the Hindarkh meteorite discovered in Agcabadi district in 1891.

Then L.Ferriere talked about impact craters on the Earth, their propagation spaces and expeditions.

The report was welcomed by the event participants and the questions were answered.
