Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

An event dedicated to the 80th jubilee of famous biophysicist, Honored Scientist, leading researcher of the Ecological Biophysics Laboratory, Professor Hagverdi Jafarov has been held at the Institute of Biophysics of ANAS.

The event was attended by professors and teachers of Baku State University, Azerbaijan Medical University, academics and specialists of the Institute of Physiology, Radiation Problems, Physics, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology of ANAS.

Opening the event, director of the Institute of Biophysics, correspondent member of ANAS Oktay Gasimov spoke about the meaningful life of the anniversary and rich scientific creativity. He noted that the member of the Azerbaijan Biophysics Society and the Russian Biophysics Society is the author of 6 monographs, about 200 scientific articles and 10 patents.

Then, Professor Tokay Huseynov, head of the Ecological Biophysics Laboratory, made a report on Hagverdi Jafarov's life and creativity. He noted that the scientist had a great deal of work in the preparation of highly skilled scientific cadres, under the guidance of H.Jafarov 32 PhDs and 6 doctors of sciences. He pointed out that the main areas of activity of the scientist are the role of the mitochondria's external membranes in the death of cells and the role of free radical oxidation of lipids in the activity of photoreceptors, the preparation of optimal methods for conservation of biological objects, their viability evaluation, and environmental pollution problems.

It was noted that the prominent scientist was engaged in pedagogical activity besides scientific activity. In 1991, he worked at Biomedical Laboratory at the Faculty of Biology of Baku State University, in 1992, and Physiology Department, and in 1996-2002 as Head of the Department of Molecular Biology at Nigda and Canakkala University in Turkey.

Other speakers at the event said that H. Jafarov was a noble human being, and shared his pleasant memories about the scientist.

At the end of his speech, he thanked the organizers and participants of the event.
