Open joint-stock company (OJSC) "Azerkhalcha" identified a rare carpet, belonging to the period of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.

A Fleecy carpet, weaved in Shusha, in 1926 is a unique example of Azerbaijani carpet weaving.

For the first time in the history of our country's culture, the symbol of the state - the flag was woven on the carpet.

The 1st flag of the ADR period, covering the time from June 21 to November 9, 1918, was immortalized on the carpet by folk craftsmen.

The inscriptions and images on the carpet were added from right to left in accordance with the rules of Arabic calligraphy.

Noted that, this art belonging to the 1345 year on Hijra (1926 year according to the Gregorian calendar). In the middle on a blue background symbolizing Turkism, a red flag with a crescent and a star and there are inscriptions in Azerbaijani in Arabic script: "Zikr edər cinnü-mələk həm insan: "Zikr edər cinnü-mələk həm insan. Yaşasın devletü Azərbaycan" and "Hür azade yaşatsun hamunu. Hem hüquq olsun er ile nisvan". Fluffy carpet size is 178х129 made from wool.

In 1926, to weave such a carpet, reflecting the attribute of independent statehood, required great courage. This was the time when the intelligentsia was persecuted, which propagandized the ideas of independence and wanted to liberate Azerbaijan, was preparing for the repressions of the 1930s.

Woven carpet in such a period is an indication that no force could not stifle the desire of the Azerbaijani people to live freely. The choice of carpet to reflect the idea of independence is not accidental. Because the carpet is our national wealth and is an example of values, way of life and history of the Azerbaijani people. Currently, President Ilham Aliyev pays much attention to the development of carpet weaving and the preservation of our independence.

Noted that, unique carpet is stored in a private collection in Azerbaijan, in 2013 was adopted from one of the Dutch collectors and delivered to our country.
