New finds in the Piboztapa ancient necropolis

On July 31, by Lerik archaeological expedition of ANAS Institute of Archeology and Ethnography was completed the study of  monuments located in the administrative territory of Gurdasar and Kiravurd villages of Lerik region.

During the archaeological excavations in the administrative territory of the Gurdasar village in the Piboztapa necropolis of the ancient period 27 graves were investigated.

As a result of archaeological research since 2012 in Piboztapa have been discovered 190 graves, 170 from which are belonging to the Ancient Period.

According to the characteristic features the graves they are refer to the V-III centuries BC.

The results of radiocarbon analyzes carried out in US research laboratories also confirm that.

Head of Lerik Archaeological Expedition for the Ancient Period, PhD in History Eminli Jeyhun said that, the graves were founded in different forms. Skeletons in graves were buried in a wrapped form, on the right or left side. Next to the buried are laid their arms, swords, knives and spears. In addition, various pottery was found in the graves.

Some of the samples of this dish are made in the form of animals, which is associated with special rituals. On the buried, personal belongings, ornaments of bronze and silver, as well as beads of various compositions were also found.

He added that, in 2016, to the expedition for the ancient period in Lerik region, were invited American scientists. For the third year the expedition continues its activity in the international status.

Foreign scientists conducts anthropological research on the detection of bones of people and animals, and draw maps to determine the presence of monuments in the surrounding areas.
