Academician Vasif Babazadeh, professor, State prizewinner, Honored scientist, Head of Economic minerals department, Honored Scientist, laureate of "Glory" and "Honor" is 80.Babazade Vasif Mammad Agha was born on September 2, 1938 in Baku. In 1945-1955, he studied at secondary schools # 1 and # 7, and in 1955-1960 he gained an engineer-geologist specialty at the Geology and Geography Faculty of the Azerbaijan State University (present BSU).From 1959 to 1961 he was Senior Collector, senior geologist, chief of geological-exploration party of Geological-exploration Trust N«l of Caucasian Complex Geological Expedition of Geology Ministry of USSR (Pyatigorsk, North Caucasus), in 1961-1964, the junior scientific researcher of BSU, 1973-1980 He worked as Dean of Geology and Geography Faculty of the same university. Since 1986 he has been working as Plead of Economic minerals chair, as well as Supervisor of scientific- research laboratory of Aerospace research of Earth resources.V.Babazade 1964 - defended candidate dissertation: "Geological conditions of formation and distribution of chrome mineralization in ophiolite zone of the Lesser Caucasus" (Baku) and in 1975 - defended doctor thesis: "Endogenic ore formations of Sevano-Garabakh zone (Lesser Caucasus)". (Novosibirsk)In 1977, he received his professor degree, in 1989 he became a correspondent of ANAS and in 2014 he was elected as a full member.The scientist, for the first time developed metallogeny of the Earth ophiolitic belts, defined extension mercury belt of the Lesser Caucasus and lineament zones of long endogenic activity and ring structures in South Caucasus, compiled "Spacetectonic map of Azerbaijan" (1:600 000) and "Map of regional jointing with prediction of economic minerals of Azerbaijan" (1:600 000), used formational analysis of some segments of the Mediterranean metallogenic belt, developed geological-genetic models of ore-magmatic systems, gave prediction assessment and perspectivity of industrial using of gold-ore, copper and molibden fields, suggested theoretical preconditions of discovering ore fields of black, non-ferrous and noble metals in different structural-formational zones of Azerbaijan; as an expert was in research projects "For official using", has CRDF grant (USA 2005-2007) and 6th Council of Europe frame Programme (INTAS) (2007-2009), took part in preparations to laws: "About interior part" (1998) and "About Education" (2008).V.Babazadeh is the author of more than 350 scientific works, including 40 monographs and textbooks and 3 maps of strategic significance. The number of his works abroad is 80, the number of articles published in international and reference journals is 35. Under the guidance of the academician 30 philosophy, 11 doctors of sciences have been prepared.V.Babazadeh was awarded the State Prize Laureate (1978), Honored Scientist (2000), Baku State University "Scientist of the Year" (2007), "Glory" order (2009), award named after academician Musa Aliyev (2017) named award of Georgian National Academy of Sciences named after academician Alexander Tvalchrelidze (Tbilisi, 2018) and the Order of Honor (2018).We congratulate the well-known geologist-scientist on his 80th jubilee, wish him good health and success in his life!
