A report on research conducted in Azerbaijan in the field of nanotechnology

A report on research conducted in Azerbaijan in the field of nanotechnology

On October 3, by a joint meeting of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan and the Academic Council of Baku State University, rector of BSU, academician Abel Maharramov delivered a scientific report on "Research conducted in Azerbaijan in the field of nanotechnology, results and prospects".

Academician said that, currently successful research is underway aimed at obtaining, stabilizing, studying and applying nanostructures. Noting that magnetic nanocomposite structures with super magnetic properties and magnetic resistance were obtained, the speaker added that their structure was studied and the relationship between the structure and properties was revealed; The possibilities of using the obtained magnetic nanocomposites in certain areas of technology are also being considered, and some of them have already found their application in various industrial facilities of the republic.

The speaker stressed that, while studying the effect of nanoparticles on living organisms, mainly plants, on their viability, the mechanism of the influence of nanoparticles, which are transferred by diffusion from plant cell membranes into the cell, to a violation of the viability of this cell was investigated: “Iron oxide nanoparticles 3 -5 nm were obtained in micelles and stabilized. A drug substance was placed on the surface of the nanoparticles that influenced the development of cancer cells, after which they were studied by in-vitro. It was found that using magnetic nanoparticles, medicinal substances can be transported into diseased cells without damaging healthy ones”.

Abel Maharramov also added that in order to enhance the process of gas formation and activation in the interlayer medium, Nano dispersed metal powders were obtained under laboratory conditions, their effects were studied in oil wells that were operated for a long time. In the study of reservoir water, it was found that in this system the intensity of gas separation and pressure, as well as the acidity of the medium, increase. The increase in pressure occurs as a result of the introduction of nanoparticles into the system and increases oil production in wells that have been in operation for a long time.

Informing that studies are being conducted to identify nanoparticles that affect the development of plants in saline soils, to study their biological and physiological properties, as well as studies that make it possible to increase salt tolerance in plants, the BSU rector stressed that it was found that after treatment of plant germs with metal nanoparticles their ability to germinate normally develops on soils with varying degrees of salinity.

The academician noted that in the scientific institutions of ANAS, research in the field of Nano- and Nano biotechnologies is conducted at the international level, the most advanced areas are being developed effectively. He added that to meet the needs of the oil and gas industry, medicine and ecology in the country, devices and devices, including sources and converters of electromagnetic radiation, are created on the basis of Nano carbons, nanocomposites and multifunctional thin-layer nanoscale structures.

Academician Akif Alizadeh proposed to create a joint council on nanotechnology problems of ANAS with the Ministry of Education of Azerbaijan.

After listening the report, Vice-Presidents of ANAS, academicians Ibrahim Guliyev, Dilgam Tagiyev and Irada Huseynova, academician-Secretary of ANAS, academician Rasim Aliguliyev, head of the Department of Science, Higher and Secondary Special Education of the Ministry of Education Yagub Piriyev, Academician-Secretary of the Department of Biological and Medical Sciences ANAS, academician Ahliman Amiraslanov, Academician-Secretary of the Division of Physical-Mathematical and Technical Sciences of ANAS, academician Nazim Mammadov, academician Vasif Babazadeh and others who shared their stories Footed on this issue. After discussions, Presidium adopted a resolution according to which the report submitted by academician Abel Maharramov was approved; considering the importance of nanotechnology, which is an innovative field of science, it was considered expedient to continue the multidisciplinary research that is being conducted in this field. Also to coordinate the research conducted in the country in the field of nanomaterials, and to identify the current state of scientific research, it was decided to create a working group to develop joint mega-project in priority areas by specialists of ANAS, BSU and structures engaged in research in this field.
