Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

ANAS Institute of History organized a conference dedicated to the 90th anniversary of prominent historian scientist, Honored Scientist, correspondent member of ANAS Garash Madatov at ANAS main bulding.

Members of Milli Majlis, well-known scientists of the republic, Q.Madatov’s family members and mass media attended the event.

Firstly, was held the exhibition of books and monographs reflecting the scientific-pedagogical activity of Garash Madatov.

Director of the Institute of History, academician Yagub Mahmudov spoke about the life and scientific activity of the prominent scientist.He noted that, Garash Madatov had exceptional services in the development of Azerbaijan's historical science, and since 1968 he has headed the Department of modern history of the Institute of History.

Garash Madatov devoted his scientific activity to the study of the period of the World War II in 1941-1945, as a result of his works, published the monograph “Azerbaijan during the World War II (1941-1945)”.

Works by academician Garash Madatov prevented the plans of Armenians to distort the history of the Azerbaijani people. In addition, despite the pressure of Armenian politicians on the leadership of the USSR, he said that, the scientist managed to publish the three-volume “History of Azerbaijan”.

Y.Mahmudov also noted that, the scientist was the author of more than 160 scientific works, under his leadership 11 doctors of science and 30 PhDs defended. His works have been published in a number of foreign countries. He noted that, in 1983 the scientist was elected as corresponding member of ANAS, and in 1990 he was awarded the honorary title of Honored Scientist.

During the event, academician Bunyadov Teymur, corresponding member of ANAS Vali Aliyev, Deputy Director for Scientific Work of the Institute Jabi Bahramov delivered report on “Problems of participation of the Azerbaijani people in the 1941-1945 war in the scientific works by Garash Madatov", Ph.D. in History Adalat Gasimov delivered a paper on “Life and scientific and pedagogical activity of Garash Madatov”.

In conclusion, son of the famous scientist Tofik Madatov thanked the organizers and participants of the event.
