Prominent historian, Deputy of the Milli Mejlis, Director of ANAS Institute of History Yagub Mahmudov is 80th on February 10.

Academician Yagub Mahmudov is one of our eminent scientists, who has devoted his life to the study, perpetuation and teaching of the history of Azerbaijan. Along with the history of Azerbaijan, he is also a prominent researcher of the history of the world and diplomacy. The scientist today makes a significant contribution to the history of his time by his fruitful scientific activities.

Yagub Mikayil oglu Mahmudov was born on February 10, 1939 in Bash Goynuk village of the Sheki region of Azerbaijan.

In 1962, he graduated with honors from the history faculty of Azerbaijan State University (now Baku State University (BSU).

Since 2004 Yagub Mahmudov is the Director of ANAS Institute of History. He was elected a corresponding member of ANAS in 2007, and in 2017 – as active member of ANAS. He is the author of more than 1000 scientific papers. Supervises the scientific schools created by him in the field of scientific directions in the history of diplomacy, lost lands, the history of genocides and the project "History of Azerbaijan in the primary sources. "Works of the academician are published in many foreign countries (Moscow, London, Washington, New York, Ankara, Istanbul, Rome, Cairo, Seoul, Mexico City, Islamabad, Los Angeles, etc.).

Under the scientific leadership of Yagub Mahmudov, was established a school of historians, consisting of 65 PhDs and Doctors of Science.

Yagub Mahmudov was awarded the Order "Shohrat" (1999), "Saraf" (2009), "Ataman Anton Golovaty" (2013), the medal "Parliament" of the Milli Majlis (2018). He is a laureate of awards and Prize "Yusif Mammadaliyev", "Rasul Rza", "Golden Sword", "Golden Pen", "Samir Askarkhanov", "Humay", "Youth Friend".

Yagub Mahmudov is an Honored Scientist and laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Honored Scientist of the Republic of Dagestan of the Russian Federation and an active member of the International Academy of Modern Sciences after Lutfi Zadeh.

In 2016, Yagub Mahmudov was awarded the Abbasgulu aga Bakikhanov Prize for his contribution in the field of research into the history of Azerbaijan’s statehood and the identification of truthful facts against Armenian falsification.
