ANAS Institute of History held presentation of the “A Page of the Glorious Life: Faculty of History (1986–1990)” (“Şərəfli ömrün bir səhifəsi: Tarix fakültəsi (1986-1990)”) book.

The ideological author and book designer, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of academician Yagub Mahmudov is scientist and historian Güntekin Najafli.

The event, hosted by the deputy of the Milli Majlis Fazail Ibrahimli, was attended by students of the History Faculty of Baku State University (BSU) 1980s-1990s.

The deputy of the Milli Majlis Fazail Ibrahimli reminded that, Yagub Mahmudov in 1986–1990 and 1994–2004 was the dean of History Faculty of BSU. He spoke on the significance of the book.

At the presentation, Yagub Mahmudov’s students historians Günhekin Najafli, Sevinj Ruinten, Rasul Huseynli, Dilaver Azimli and others said that, academician plays an important role in the training of highly qualified personnel of historians in Azerbaijan, under his leadership a school of historians the 65 PhD and Doctors of science was trained.

Academic Council cheared by Dean of Faculty Yagub Mahmudov decided to restore the historic name of the Order of the Red Banner of Labor of Azerbaijan State University after Kirov- now BSU. Since then, the university operates under its historical name.

The book stated that, on the eve of the January 20 tragedy, Yagub Mahmudov, in order to protect the student’s lives held an examination session at the faculty ahead of schedule. As a result, only one BSU student of history was injured.

At the event also noted that, Yagub Mahmudov made an important contribution to the study of the history of the statehood of Azerbaijan and the identification of true facts against the Armenian fraud. The great leader Heydar Aliyev praised the scientific work of Yagub Mahmudov, calling him a "great scientist", "great historian" of Azerbaijan.

Academician thanked the organizers of the event and noted that, we should study our history: “The people who know their history are invincible. And the people who do not know their history are doomed to death”.
