The report on Development of Azerbaijan Silkworm Breeding and Sericulture delivered in India

International Sericultural Commission held the 6th Asian-Pacific Congress on Silk and Insect Biotechnology in Mysore, India, which was attended by over 200 representatives from 30 countries, including the Director of ANAS Sheki Regional Scientific Center, Phd. in Physical and Mathematical Sciences, associate professor Yusif Shukurlu.

Azerbaijani scientist spoke on the history of sericulture in Azerbaijan. He informed on the Sheki Silkworm Breeding and Sericulture, Goychay plant and the ancient silk-growing areas - Sheki, Baskal, Shamakhi and Ganja.

He noted that, in the Soviet period, the development of this area suffered significant damage. To eliminate this collapse, was adopted the “State program for the Development of Azerbaijan Silkworm Breeding and Sericulture in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2018-2025” dated November 27, 2017. The scientist spoke about the work done by the ANAS Sheki Regional Scientific Center in accordance with this program.

Further, Yusif Shukurlu visited the Central Sericultural Research & Training Institute. During the meeting, prospects for bilateral cooperation were discussed.
