On June 12, the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography organized a scientific session on "The results of archaeological and ethnographic researches conducted in Azerbaijan in 2018" dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the national leader Heydar Aliyev's coming to power in Azerbaijan.
Opening the event, Academician-Secretary of the Department of Social Sciences of ANAS, academician Nargiz Akhundova said that with the arrival of the great leader in power in the country in 1969, a new stage of our country's fate started and started to develop. He said that the nationwide leader has been a significant force in the development of Azerbaijani science, the formation of national human resources, protection and development of our mother tongue. The academician also said that the great leader has done unprecedented work in the protection and propagation of material and cultural heritage in our country, as well as in the development of archeology and ethnography.
He emphasized the need to preserve, restore, and present our archaeological heritage today. In addition, it is important to create archeological museums in the regions, including the open-air museum.
Academician N.Akhundova said that archaeological excavations were carried out by scientists of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography, important scientific findings, historical facts are reflected in monographs and articles.
Then Director of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Maisa Rahimova delivered a speech on "The role of national leader Heydar Aliyev in the development of archeology and ethnography in Azerbaijan". Archeology and Ethnography sector was organized in the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan in 1974 and archeological and ethnographic expeditions were sent to all regions of the country. Despite the existence of archaeological and ethnographic researches in our country for more than 100 years, revolutionary development in these areas was achieved during Heydar Aliyev's leadership in the 1970s and 1980s of the last century, she said.
M.Rahimova gave detailed information about the activity of the Institute.
M.Rahimova noted that joint international expeditions organized by experts from Japan, South Korea, USA, France, Germany, Italy play an important role in promoting the national archeology around the world.
Following the official opening of the scientific session, reports on archeological and ethnographic studies carried out in sections in 2018 were heard.
