10th Baku International Book Fair kicked off

The opening ceremony of the 10th Baku International Book Fair organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan was held at the Baku Expo Center on October 2.

National music was performed at the opening ceremony.

The chairman of the Azerbaijan Writers’ Union, People’s Writer Anar spoke at the event, highlighting the significance of the fair. He said that the event is a great celebration for book lovers. “May books always be and keep us alive” - he underlined.

This year’s jubilee exhibition is dedicated to the 530th anniversary of the birth of the great Azerbaijani poet and thinker Muhammad Fuzuli (1494-1556).

The exhibition brought together 56 foreign organizations from 18 countries across 4 continents, as well as 110 local publishing houses and enterprises operating in the field of printing and book art.

Poet Salam Sarvan and writer Rovshan Abdullaoghlu were selected as honorary authors of the fair by the organizing committee of the Baku International Book Fair.

World-renowned Irish author John Boyne, well-known German novelist Wulf Dorn, and writer Fariba Vafi, of Azerbaijani origin, are also among the honorary guests of the fair.

Notable writers, poets, scholars, and young authors from countries including Turkey, Italy, China, Russia, the Republic of Korea, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Qatar, Uzbekistan, Oman, Argentina, Morocco, Venezuela, Georgia, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, and Mongolia are participating at the meeting alongside Azerbaijan.

The exhibition includes master classes for children and adults, presentations of books on inclusion and other relevant topics, book signing days, conferences, symposiums, competitions, reading and music hours.

It should be noted that during the fair, visitors are provided with special free shuttle buses from the “Elmlər Akademiyası”, “28 May” and “Koroglu” metro stations to Baku Expo Center and back, throughout the day.

The exhibition will be open to visitors every day from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

Entrance to the fair is free.
