The Karabakh neolith aeneolite expedition of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of ANAS carried out archaeological research in May-June.
Archaeological exploration work was mainly carried out in Barda and Fuzuli districts, and many monuments in the territory of Agdam region were monitored and their protection status was checked. The Sultanbud Forest has been completely involved in archeological excavations, and the archeological monument of various periods is electronically registered and mapped. Archaeological excavations in Neolithic monuments discovered in Khachinchay-Tertchay valley continued this year. Thus, during this research season archeological excavations were carried out at the Amirli neolithic period settlement # 3.
According to the head of the expedition, PhD in history Khagani Almammadov, as a result of the excavations, the thickness of the layer of the Neolithic era was about 2 meters in the Amirli monument number 3. Soil samples were taken from different depths to make accurate summaries of climate change that occurred during an ancient settlement and how this process affects people's lifestyle. On the basis of these samples, paleonological analyzes will be conducted in the corresponding laboratories of the Institute of Geography and Geology and Geophysics of ANAS.
Studies are being conducted to determine the chronological framework for the Amirli settlement. Junior researcher of the Institute of Radiation Problems of ANAS, member of the group "History of archaeological findings" Aybeniz Ahadova participated in the excavations and took samples and measured the radiation background at samples.
According to the decision of the Presidium of ANAS on conducting archaeological research in the occupied territories of Karabakh on June 11, 2014, archaeological exploration works were carried out in the occupied territories of Fuzuli and Jabrail districts. As a result of the carried out exploration, the archeological, historical and architectural monument of different periods was mapped. The Horadiz settlement was selected as the main research object of the expedition, and topographic surveys were carried out on its territory. In the future, large-scale archaeological excavations are planned to be performed here.
