“Current situation and history of mathematics and astronomy and look into the future” international conference

On September 10 was held “Current situation of mathematics and astronomy and history and look into the future” international conference dedicated to Nasiraddin Tusi’s 740th anniversary at the main building of ANAS.

Scientists from various countries of the world - Spain, France, England, Switzerland, Russia, Iran and Uzbekistan will attend the event jointly organized by Ministry of Communications and High Technologies and Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics.

Opening the conference vice president of ANAS, academician Akif Hajiev spoke about the influence of the Tusi creativity to the formation of Azerbaijani mathematical schools. The speaker also talked about eastern scientist Mohamed Nasreddin Tusi's heritage and its contribution to the development of a variety of academic areas, and noted study of his works by academy staff. The academy award have been founded on Tusi’s name and academic Chingiz Gajar. for the first time have been awarded to the prize for fundamental research in the field of physics and achievements, Hajiev lined out.

Director of the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics, Professor Misir Mardanov highly appreciated attention paid to Tusi’s creativity.

M.Mardanov made a speech on theme “About Azerbaijani great scholar Nasiraddin Tusi " which dealt with great scientist's life and activity. “Tusi was born in Tus in 1201. The first education he got from his father and later he increased knowledge in Hamadan and Tus cities. Over one hundred of his works dedicated to astronomy, mathematics, physics, medicine, philosophy, ethics, logic and other areas. Tusi has a special place in astronomy and mathematics. He is the author more than 20 research works, Mardanov noted in his lecture.

Later, academician of International Academy of the History of Science, Professor Sergey Demidov, a professor at the Polytechnic University of Lausanne Ahmed Jabbar, president of Manchester branch of the UK Islamic Heritage Center, Professor Salim Ayduz and others made speeches and wished the conference success.

The conference will continue in sections at Azerbaijan University and Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory named after N. Tusi.
