Academician Tayyar Jafarov is 80

On July 18, prominent physicist, Laboratory Head of the Institute of Physics, academician T. Jafarov is 80.

Jafarov Tayyar Jumshud oglu was born on July 18, 1939 in Baku. He graduated from the Physics faculty of the Azerbaijan State University (now Baku State University) in 1961. T.Jafarov's scientific activity in 1961-1978 was connected with the Institute of Semiconductors of the USSR and Institute of Physics and Technology named after A.F.Ioffe. He has worked here as a post graduate student, a scientific worker, senior scientific worker and head of the Diffusion Process Sector. Since 1978 he has been a laboratory assistant and deputy director at the Institute of Physics of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences. He is currently the head of the Solar and Hydrogen Energy Converter Laboratory.

In 1965, he was a PhD in physics on the topic "Influence of the internal and external electric field in semiconductors on the diffusion impact". In 1974, he was a doctor of physics on the subject of "Interactions in semiconductors and defects in diffusion". In 1982, he was renamed as a professor, and in 1989 he was a corresponding member of ANAS and in 2014 he was elected an academician.

He taught General Physics and Semiconductor Electronics in the Azerbaijan Oil and Chemistry Academy in 1980-1993.

T. Jafarov is the author of 9 monographs and books, more than 330 articles and 15 inventions. Under his leadership 5 doctors and 32 phDs were trained.

A member of the Bureau of the Scientific Council of Functions of Electronics Technology at the International Association of Academies of Sciences of the CIS and European countries, was awarded with the Honorary Order of the USSR Academy of Sciences for scholarly achievements.
