Philological faculty of Baku State University held "The problem of classification folklore: genre or performance?" seminar by scientific secretary of the Presidium of ANAS, PhD in Philology, associate professor Sarkhan Havari on October 18.

The seminar was attended by teachers and students of BSU, scientists of ANAS Institute of Folklore, employees of other universities and scientific institutions of the Republic.

Opening the event, dean of the faculty, PhD in philology, associate professor Elchin Mammadov spoke on the expansion of theoretical and methodological research in the field of folklore in Azerbaijan in recent years.

Then, Sarkhan Havari delivered a report. The scientist noted that, one of the important areas of theoretical folklore is the subject of folklore. The theoretical problem of determining the subject area and boundaries in theoretical folklore is difficult (to give an exact answer to the question “what is folklore?”).

Classification of a particular texture in turn is also a matter of scientific necessity. The author argues that, folklore should be considered as a whole system of artifacts, diachronic and synchronous, universal cultural metastases that arise as a result of collective human activity in accordance with modern approaches. Folklore is all material and spiritual, created by the "people" as a result of collective actions and transformed into collective information.

In particular, the author consider various classification models based on the principles for determining the texture of folklore.
