Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

An international conference on "Modern problems of mathematics and mechanics" dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics of ANAS (IMM) has kicked off on October 23.

Scientists from the USA, Turkey, Russia, Iran, Mexico and Israel participated in the event in the assembly hall of the Institute of Information Technology.

Opening the conference, the vice-president of ANAS academician Dilgam Tagiyev congratulated the institute staff on the anniversary and wished them success.

Then the director of IMM, correspondent member of ANAS Misir Mardanov spoke about the history, directions of activity and achievements of the institute. He said that the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics was established in 1959 on the basis of the mathematics department of the Institute of Physics and Mathematics of the Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijan SSR. M. Mardanov said that for the first time the institute had functional departments, function theory, differential equations, integral equations, approximate analysis, elasticity theory and computing center. He stressed out the great role played by famous scientists M.V. Keldys, M.A. Lavrentyev, I.N. Muskhelishvili, I.G. Petrovski, S.L. Sobolev, S.N. Bernstein and A.I. Maltsev in the creation and development of these directions.

During his 50-year activity, Mardanov noted that the IMM was led by academicians - Zahid Khalilov, Ibrahim Ibrahimov, Faramaz Magsudov, Akif Hajiyev, corresponding member of ANAS Ilham Mammadov and Professor Hashim Agayev. The scientist said that the Institute has achieved significant scientific results on "Harmonic and Non-Harmonic Analysis", "Ridge Functions and Approaches with Neural Networks", "Spectral and Quality Theory of Differential Equations".

M. Mardanov said that in 2013-2019, 440 articles of scientists of the Institute were published in journals included in the Web of Science database and presented the book on the 60th anniversary of the enterprise.

The conference was also attended by academics - Nazim Mammadov, Telman Aliyev, Vagif Abbasov, Fikret Aliyev, Rector of Khazar University Professor Hamlet Isakhanli, Vice-rector of Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University, Professor Asaf Zamanov, Academician of Russian Academy of Sciences Yuriy Ershov, Professor of Koch University of Turkey expressed their congratulations and presented gifts.

The event continued its work with plenary sessions.

The conference will end on October 25.
