Today, in the main building of ANAS the scientific session on the topic "Academician Mammadagha Shiraliyev and Azerbaijani linguistics" was organized by the Institute of Linguistics named after Nasimi.

The event was organized in accordance with the Presidential Decree dated July 19, 2019 "Celebrating the 110th anniversary of Academician Mammadaga Shiraliyev".

Speaking at the scientific session, director of the Institute of Linguistics academician Mohsun Naghisoylu spoke about the multifaceted scientific creativity of a prominent linguist and turkologist. He said that M. Shiraliyev was the first academician of linguistics in Azerbaijan. He is widely known as a dialectologist in the linguistic arena and has gained world-renowned scholarship.

"Academician M. Shiraliyev has made a special contribution to the development of dialectology in Azerbaijan, the development of Turkology, the formation of Azerbaijani linguistics, the promotion of Azerbaijani scientific and cultural thinking in the Turkic world," the scientist said.

It was noted that academician M. Shiraliyev has done a great job in the field of education, along with his scientific activity. Although a prominent scientist has held high positions in universities over the years, he has devoted more than 50 years of his life to researching the theoretical and applied problems of linguistics. His fundamental work “Fundamentals of Azerbaijani dialectology” was awarded the State Prize of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Later, Professor Ismail Mammadli's lecture on “Mammadmaga Shiraliyev's Stage in Azerbaijani Linguistics”, Prof. Maharram Mammadov’s on “Mammadagha Shiraliyev and Actual Problems of Azerbaijani Dialectology”, PhD in Philology Assoc. Prof. Kifayat Imamguliyev’s “Mammadagha Shiraliyev’s school in geographical linguistics” were delivered.

Professor Gazanfar Pashayev, Sevil Mehdiyeva and others spoke at the event and said that the scientist's research on the history of language is one of the most valuable examples of Azerbaijani science.

Finally, Sevda Alizadeh, on behalf of the scientist's family, thanked the participants of the conference.
