Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

On November 2, a prominent chemist, acad. Academician Ramiz Rizayev, the senior researcher at the Institute of Catalysis and Inorganic Chemistry named after M. Nagiyev, is 80 years old.

Rizayev Ramiz Hasangulu oglu was born on November 2, 1939 in Nakhchivan. He graduated from the Chemistry Department of the Azerbaijan State University (now Baku State University) in 1962. In 1973-1985 he was the head laboratory at the Institute of Petrochemical Processes, director of the Institute of Catalysis and Inorganic Chemistry in 1985-2002, and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Russian Federation in 1993-2005. He is currently a senior research fellow at the Institute of Catalysis and Inorganic Chemistry.

R. Rizayev received PhD in Chemistry in 1965 on " Studying the reactions of oxidative ammonolysis of some alkyl substituted cyclohexanes", a doctoral degree on “Studying the processes of oxidative ammonolysis of some aromatic hydrocarbons” in 1974. He was elected a corresponding member of ANAS in 1983, an active member of ANAS in 2001.

The main scientific activity of the scientist is in the field of heterogeneous catalysis. R. Rizayev achieved a number of fundamental results in the study of oxidative dehydrogenation processes of small molecular paraffins and applied in industrial practice the efficient methods of obtaining many valuable synthetic materials based on aromatic nitriles.

R. Rizayev is the author of more than 280 scientific works, including 50 copyright certificates and 30 foreign patents, 1 monograph. He supervised 7 doctors of science and 26 doctors of philosophy.

R. Rizayev was awarded honorary decrees of the Supreme Soviet of Azerbaijan and ANAS, as well as the Medal of Honor.
