Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

Institute of Literature named after Nizami Ganjavi of ANAS held a meeting with the descendants of descendants of the famous Azerbaijani writer and public figure Jalil Mammadguluzadeh - great-grandson Martin Javanshiri and his son Przemislav Javanshiri.

It should be noted that the descendants of Jalil Mammadguluzadeh came to Azerbaijan at the initiative of the ANAS vice-president director of the Institute of Literature academician Isa Habibbayli.

At the meeting, academician Isa Habibbayli said that for many years he put a lot of effort into organizing the arrival of representatives of the clan J. Mammadguluzade to our country. He said that on January 25, 1992, he met in Tehran with Teymur Javanshiri and Iren Javanshiri, the children of Mirza Jalil’s son Anvar Mammadguluzadeh who left the country in 1942. The scientist also said that in 1998 he met with the daughter of A. Mammadguluzadeh Mehri Sagatchia in Paris and made contacts.

I. Habibbayli brought to attention that a research paper entitled “Genealogy of Jalil Mammadguluzadeh” has been prepared.

The ANAS vice-president noted that in 2009 he took the initiative to invite the relatives of the great writer to Azerbaijan on the 140th anniversary of the writer. He also highlighted the assistance of the journalist Hafiz Ahmadov in the implementation of this case.

During their stay in Azerbaijan, representatives of the J. Mammadguluzadeh’s clan took part in scientific and cultural events dedicated to the outstanding writer organized by the National Library of Azerbaijan named after Mirza Fatali Akhundzade and Institute of Literature, visited the writer’s house-museum, his grave in the Alley of Honor, Martyr’s Alley, took part in a scientific and practical conference dedicated to the 150th anniversary of J. Mammadguluzadeh, gave interviews to various media, including met with employees of the Institute of Literature.

The great-grandson of J. Mammadguluzadeh M. Javanshiri expressed gratitude for the great hospitality in Azerbaijan.

At the end of the event, Isa Habibbayli presented M. Javanshiri the book “Jalil Mammadguluzade is 150 years old - articles, essays, interviews, poems.”
