On December 2, Electronic Assembly Hall of the Institute of Literature of ANAS named after Nizami Ganjavi hosted for a international scientific conference “The Image of Nashimi in Art” on the occasion of the 650th anniversary of the great Azerbaijani poet and thinker Imadeddin Nasimi.

The conference, organized by the Division of Humanitarian Sciences of ANAS and Institute of Architecture and Art, was attended by representatives from Russia, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.

Opening the conference, ANAS vice-president academician Isa Habibbeyli said that the announcement of 2019 as the “Year of Nasimi” is an indicator of high appreciation and respect for the work of the great thinker. He noted that in the light of this decree, a series of events is being held dedicated to the poet’s anniversary, both in our country and abroad. As part of these events, a bust of Nasimi was opened at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations last year, and a statue of a poet was erected at the Atrium of the Russian State Library of Foreign Languages in Moscow this year.

Speaking about the events implemented in ANAS, I. Habibbeyli said that conferences and scientific sessions were held in scientific institutions and organizations attached to the Division of Humanitarian Sciences, and the poet’s creative activity was widely promoted in the press.

The vice-president of the academy emphasized that the systematic research and promotion of the heritage of Imadaddin Nasimi was initiated by national leader Heydar Aliyev. At the initiative of the great leader, 600th anniversary of the poet was included in the list of UNESCO Events. As a result of the work done over the years, Nasimi was introduced to the world as an Azerbaijani poet.

Speaking about the poet’s position in Azerbaijani literature, Isa Habibbayli stressed out the importance of returning to Nasimi’s heritage during independence. He noted that the decrees signed by President Ilham Aliyev during the period of independence play an important role in the publication and popularization of the poet’s works.

“Nasimi is one of the greatest creators of the concept of a perfect person in literature,” I.Habibbeyli said, adding that the poet’s art plays an exceptional role in studying the historical development of the Azerbaijani language, in the development of Azerbaijani poetry and Turkic literature in general. Noting that the works of the great thinker have been translated into many languages of the world, scientist said that Nasimi's poetry promotes peace, tolerance and multiculturalism.

Further, within the framework of the conference, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between Institute of Architecture and Art of ANAS and National Arts and Design Institute of the Uzbekistan Academy of Arts named after K.Behzad.

During conference were listened following lectures: “The Image of Nasimi in Sculptural Art”, “Imadaddin Nasimi and Azerbaijani Music”, “The Image of Abay in Kazakh Art”, “Nasimi's Creativity in Book Graphics”, “Nasimi Poetry in the Context of Mugam-ozan Performance”, etc.

The international scientific conference will run until December 3.
