Scientific workshop on topical issues of Internet folklore

On December 10, Faculty of Philology of the Baku State University (BSU) has hosted for a workshop by a senior researcher at the Institute of Folklore of ANAS, Doctor of Philological sciences, associate professor Hikmat Guliyev on "Internet folklore or folklore on Internet: approaches, problems and prospects."

The workshop was attended by teacher-stundet staff of the chair of Azerbaijani Oral Folk Literature of the Faculty of Philology, as well as scientists from the Institute of Folklore.

Opening the event head chair of Azerbaijani Oral Folk Literature, Professor Sahar Orujova said that one of the priority areas of world folklore is the study of folklore facts that arise in the Internet space. Noting that against the background of the wide spread of information and communication technologies (ICT), folk art was transformed into a new environment, the scientist emphasized the importance of studying these facts.

Speaking further, Hikmat Guliyev said that the development of ICT and the emergence of interactive discussion opportunities on the Internet have created a new platform for folk art. Having said that social networks have become an environment conducive to folklore, the speaker emphasized that these processes are becoming deeper and provide rich material for a multidimensional analysis of cultural creative facts.

Later on, the speaker gave a number of examples of Internet folklore.

Finally, discussions took place and questions of the workshop participants were responded.
