Republican Seismological Survey Center has issued an annual report

The meeting of the Division of Earth Sciences of ANAS was held at the Republican Seismological Survey Center on 18 December.

At the meeting chaired by the academic secretary of the division, academician Fakhraddin Gadirov listened to the report of the Republican Seismological Survey Center on the results of scientific and scientific-organizational activity in 2019.

Presenting the report of the organization in the current year, director general, corresponding member of ANAS Gurban Yetirmishli first informed about the state of execution of official documents that came to the center during the year.

Speaking about complex seismological, geophysical and geochemical researches conducted in the center in the reporting year and the results obtained, he said that 12,914 earthquakes were recorded by seismic stations this year. The earthquake was not felt as a result of the geodynamic processes in the lithosphere and minor earthquakes also occurred, of which 5298 recorded earthquakes were local and 6748 were regional. According to him, 25 earthquakes occurred in the country during the year. The strongest earthquake was recorded on February 5, 2019 in Shamakhi-Ismayilli-Agsu area. The magnitude of the earthquake was 5.2.

Yetirmishli said that three mud volcanoes have been recorded by the center's seismic stations this year. He said that two of those eruptions (Gushchu volcano) occurred on February 13.

There was extensive discussion around the report. Academicians Fakhraddin Gadirov, Parviz Mammadov, Akif Alizadeh, Ramiz Mammadov and Hatam Guliyev made speeches at the discussions.
