An event dedicated to the 90th anniversary of outstanding Turkish scientist and orientalist, Professor Mirza Rahimov was held at the ANAS Main building on December 20, organized by the Institute of Linguistics named after Nasimi.
Opening the event, director of the Institute of Linguistics, academician Mohsun Naghisoylu spoke about the meaningful life of the scientist, and his wide and effective scientific and pedagogical activity. He said that Professor Mirza Rahimov’s research object was the most complex areas of linguistics, Persian linguistics, theoretical grammar of Persian language, lexicology of Persian language, Persian dialectology and Persian morphology.
Then, PhD in Philology Reyhan Madatova delivered a lecture on "Life and activity of Mirza Rahimov" and noted that, Rahimov was born on December 15, 1929 in Astara. He studied in the Persian Department of the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Azerbaijan State University (present BSU) in 1948-1953 and post-graduate study at the Institute of Linguistics of the USSR Academy of Sciences in Moscow, 1953-1956. In 1957 he defended his PhD thesis on topic: "Forms of expressions of present and future verbs in written monuments of the XIV-XVIII centuries of Azerbaijan", in 1966 defended doctoral thesis on "History of formation of verb moods in the Azerbaijani language".
It was noted that Professor Rahimov was a scientific secretary at the Institute of Literature and Language named after Nizami Ganjavi, Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan in 1956-1961. He was head department of History of the Azerbaijani language in 1961-1968 and then deputy director in 1968-1973. Since 1975 he has been Professor of the Department of Iranian Philology of the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Baku State University.
Reyhan Madatova said that M.Rahimov has prepared more than 100 scientific articles, including methodic aids such as "History of formation of verb moods in Azerbaijani language", "The regularities of development of Azerbaijani literary language during the Soviet period", "Persian textbook" for master students and bachelors etc.
It was noted that most of his life was related to the Faculty of Oriental Studies at Baku State University.
In 2009, M. Rahimov was awarded the title of "Honored teacher" for his contribution to the development of education and science in Azerbaijan.
Later, Professor Roza Eyvazova delivered a lecture on “Mirza Rahimov and Historical Problems of the Azerbaijani Language" and PhD in Philology Assoc. Prof. Vahid Adilov on "Turkological Activity of Mirza Rahimov".
Later on, academician Nizami Jafarov, Professor Arif Guliyev, Firudin Jalilov, Sevil Mehdiyeva and others spoke about the role of M.Rahimov in the development of science and education and shared their memories about the scientist.
Finally, scientist’s daughter Durdana Rahimova and scientist’s spouse Gulara Rahimova expressed their gratitude to the organizers and participants of the event.
