Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

An event dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the prominent linguist, honored worker of science, corresponding member of ANAS Zarifa Budagova was held at the Institute of Linguistics.

Opening the event, director of the institute academician Mohsun Naghisoylu said that Zarifa Budagova devoted her life to the study of grammatical structure of the Azerbaijani language. The scientist was one of the creators of the modern Azerbaijani language in Azerbaijan and one of the leading specialists in the field of grammar.

It was noted that the scientist defended her thesis in 1953 on the topic “Style category in the modern Azerbaijani language”, and in 1963 - her doctoral thesis on “Simple sentence in the Azerbaijani literary language”. She received her doctorate as the first female scientist in Azerbaijani linguistics.

Then professors Ismayil Mammadli, Masud Mahmudov, Sayali Sadigova and others talked about the contribution of Z. Budagova to the development of linguistic science in our country and shared their memories of the scientist.
