Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

The scientific community of Azerbaijan suffered a heavy loss. On January 7, 2020, at the 86th year of his life, a well-known scientist in the field of physics, laureate of the State Prize of the Azerbaijan Republic, honored worker of science, an active member of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, professor Bahadir Huseyn oglu Tagiyev passed away.

Bahadir Taghiyev was born on March 13, 1934 in the village of Turkoba, Masalli district. After graduating from high school, in 1952-1956 he received higher education at the Physics and Mathematics Faculty of the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical Institute, in 1959 he entered the graduate school of the Institute of Physics of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences and in 1960-1962 continued his education at the graduate school of the Institute of Semiconductors of the USSR Academy of Sciences in Leningrad.

Having begun his career in 1956 in the Masalli district, Bahadir Taghiyev worked until 1959 as a teacher there in rural and township secondary schools. Having connected fate with the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan in 1962, until 1966 he worked as a junior researcher at the Institute of Physics of the Academy, in 1966-1974 - a senior researcher, in 1974-1993 - head of the laboratory, in 1993-2002 - first deputy director of the institute, since 2002 - senior researcher at the institute, head of the problem council. At the same time, in 1996-2009, Bahadir Taghiyev worked as a professor at the Faculty of Physics of the National Aviation Academy, since 2009 he was director and head Department of Physics of the Scientific Research Institute of Transport and Aerospace Problems of this Academy.

Bahadir Taghiyev defended his thesis in 1964, and in 1977 - a doctoral thesis in physical and mathematical sciences, in 1984 he received the title of professor. In 2001, he was elected a corresponding member, and in 2014 – an active member of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.

Academician Bahadir Taghiyev is one of the scientists who, through his fruitful activities in the field of physics, technology and semiconductor technology, made a significant contribution to the development of physical science in the republic. He achieved important scientific and technical results in the field of obtaining crystals of binary and complex semiconductor compounds, the effects of the high-voltage electric field in them, the study of luminescent phenomena, the creation of new phosphors and light sources. These results were widely used in the theoretical justification of the electrical conductivity of semiconductors and dielectrics in a strong field and in the calculation of intra-atomic electronic transitions of rare-earth elements. Under the guidance of the scientist, memory elements controlled by electromagnetic radiation, receivers with high modulation coefficients, photodiodes and other switches were created and introduced.

Bahadir Taghiyev is the author of more than 350 scientific papers published in our country and abroad, numerous copyright certificates and patents. Under his leadership, about 40 doctors of philosophy and doctors of sciences were trained. The fundamental research of Bahadir Taghiyev, who successfully represented Azerbaijani science with his speeches at international symposia, conferences and forums, was highly appreciated by the authoritative scientific circles of several countries.

The scientific-organizational and pedagogical activity of academician Bahadir Taghiyev was adequately appreciated by the state. In 1988, he received the State Prize of the Republic of Azerbaijan, in 2005 he was awarded the Order of Shohrat, and in 2018 he was awarded the honorary title of Honored Worker of Science

The memory of the famous scientist, talented organizer of science and teacher Bahadir Huseyn oglu Taghiyev will forever live in the hearts of those who knew him.
