Azerbaijani scientist’s article published in the reputable journal “Geoheritage”

An article by scientists from the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of ANAS was published in the authoritative journal "Geoheritage". The authors of the article “Feasibility Study for the Creation of the “Ilandagh” geopark in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic” are the head of the Institute’s Department of Geotectonics and Regional Geology, corresponding member of ANAS Talat Kengerli, head Department for Coordination of Innovative Projects, Doctor of Technical Sciences Vagif Ibrahimov, a leading researcher at the Department of Basin Modeling and Geotechnology, Ph.D. in Earth Sciences Tofig Rashidov and engineer at the Department of Geotectonics and Regional Geology Ilkin Kengerli.

The article conducts that in our country there are several regions for the creation of geoparks, the main tasks of which are the preservation of geological natural monuments and objects of various types of geological heritage, the promotion and popularization of geological and environmental knowledge among the general public, as well as ensuring the sustainable development of the territory.

It is noted that according to UNESCO criteria, the most promising territory for creating a geopark in our country is the Shahbuz-Ordubad region of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. This territory is distinguished by landscape and biological diversity, thermal and mineral springs with various balneological features, complex igneous and structural forms found in the relief, rich in historical, cultural and archaeological sites. Over 150 unique and rare geological objects have been discovered here.

Note that, articles by scientists from the Institute of Geology and Geophysics are accompanied by photographs and diagrams of waterfalls, geological objects, rocks and caves located in Nakhchivan.
