Institute of Caucasian Studies of ANAS held a round table dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the January 20 tragedy.

In advance, the memory of the martyrs was commemorated with a minute's silence.

The director of the institute, corresponding member of ANAS Musa Gasimli noted that the January 20 tragedy was written in the history of our people as a bloody and at the same time heroic and honorable page. He talked about the political processes taking place and touched upon the root causes of the tragedy.

Only national leader Heydar Aliyev, with all his family members, despite all the difficulties, came to the Azerbaijani Delegation in Moscow on January 21, 1990 and strongly condemned the crime and made a statement. In the following years, at the recommendation of national leader Heydar Aliyev, the National Assembly of the Republic of Azerbaijan held a special session and gave political and legal evaluation of this bloody event.

Further, Ramila Dadashova, deputy director of science at the Institute, PhD in History, head Department of Armenian Studies, Doctor of Historical Sciences Gasim Hajiyev and others spoke at the event and stressed out the importance of delivering the truths of this tragedy to the next generations.
