Scientific-practical workshop dedicated to molecular identification of crop viruses

By joint organization of European Union, United Nations Interregional Crime and Law Research Institute (UNICRI) and Fundamental Problems of the Biological productivity department of ANAS Institute of Botany Baku hosted workshop titled as “Molecular determination of crop viruses”.

Within the framework of the program “Strengthening the capacity of biosafety and bioprivacy in the South Caucasus and Central Asia” workshops has been held on the project” Molecular diagnosis of plant agriculture, GMO products, various diseases of seed imported in Azerbaijan “(Project manager: Prof. Jalal Aliyev)and attended by the Institute of Botany, Research Institute of Agriculture, Ministry of Agriculture, Research Institute of Horticulture, as well as doctoral students, young scientists and specialists from the Faculty of Biology of the Baku State University.

Opening the event chief of Bioadaptation Laboratory of the Institute of Botany of ANAS Irada Huseynova gave detailed information about the purpose of workshop to the attendees. The speakers, scientists from France, Dr. Alain Heir-Pur and Dr. Eric Verdun reported with lectures devoted to viral diseases.

The worksop was organized by various expeditions to various regions of Azerbaijan, as well as on the experimental plots of the Azerbaijan State Agrarian University in Ganja on vegetable fields and vineyards truss economy Guba, Samukh, as well as on the experimental plots Institute of Agriculture and Horticulture in Absheron. As a result of phytopathological monitors based on diagnostic imaging, which is based on the typical symptoms of viral diseases, were collected samples of infected plants. Diseased vegetation samples were analyzed by serological (ELİSA, BİOREBA, Switzerland) and molecular methods (RT-PCR) and 8 samples of viruses were identified.

Note that the organization of a workshop in Baku is an important step for Azerbaijan researchers in developing new techniques in molecular detection of viruses.
