Academician Naila Velikhanli: “We believe that the world will pass this difficult exam”

National Museum of Azerbaijan History of ANAS operates online, supporting the initiative "Stay at home, create at home", announced by the Ministry of Culture and the portal "Creative Azerbaijan".

The director of the museum, academician Naila Velikhanli, gave an extensive interview about the activities and research of the staff of the institution she leads in a special quarantine regime.

Academician N. Velikhanli said that work on the promotion of fund materials, catalogs and other publications of the museum continues. Information on the video film dedicated to the genocide on March 31, 1918, prepared by the Museum’s Education Department with the participation of students from various schools in Baku, was posted on the museum’s website. “It is gratifying that the museum’s virtual activity is monitored and evaluated outside the country,” she added.

It was noted that according to the rating compiled by the Russian tourist portal TurStat, the National Museum of the History of Azerbaijan ranks 6th among the 10 best museums of history and culture in the CIS.

She said the History Museum’s Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter accounts also regularly provide information on catalogs, online exhibitions, exhibits, and historical dates.

Naila Velikhanli said that she addressed the people of Azerbaijan on April 7 about the current situation in the country: “We believe that the world will pass this difficult test, and we will return to our previous daily worries and work. However, today we must act in accordance with the conditions, carry out our work, even if we stay at home, take care of each other, live and work for the Motherland, the state and the future.

According to the scientist, this appeal was first supported by the museum staff, and the video was prepared and presented to the public with the hashtag # gücbirlikdədir (power in unity). In the video, 15 employees from various departments of the museum demonstrated in writing various parts of this public appeal, urging people to work together to combat this disaster that isolates humanity from nature. The director noted that the material emphasizes that today our people need great discipline, generosity, social responsibility and positive thinking. This video of the museum staff, which turned the proverb “El gücü - sel gücü” into a slogan, received a positive response from the audience.

“In addition, online lectures and videos were presented by the head of the Department of the Ethnographic Science Fund of the museum associate professor Gulzada Abdulova - “Chukha, legacy of centuries” and senior researcher at the Department of Numismatics and Epigraphy Aygun Mammadova – “Mint in Azerbaijan during the Arab Caliphate and money circulation”, - added N. Velikhanli.

The preparatory work is underway for the 100th anniversary of the museum. Work on books, articles and other scientific papers to be published on the occasion of the anniversary continues at home. Several online workshops are planned in the coming days, said academician N. Velikhanli.

According to the director, museum staff are also working on materials related to the relevant decree of the president on the 150th anniversary of N. Narimanov and the celebration of May 9 - the victory over fascism. He added that in the coming days it is planned that the museum staff will perform online with reports on museology and history.
