Academician Rasim Alguliyev: “The Institute continues scientific activities in a special quarantine mode”

The activity of the ANAS Institute of Information Technology meets the requirements of a special quarantine regime established by the Operational Headquarters under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection in Azerbaijan and create conditions for more serious protection of citizens.

This was stated by ANAS vice president, Director of the Institute of Information Technology, academician Rasim Alguliyev. According to him, information and communication technologies play a special role in the implementation of scientific activities in a special quarantine mode, as in all areas. The academician emphasized that the scientific mission is performed by the AzScienceNet computer network operating at the Institute of Information Technology, which provides scientific institutions and organizations of ANAS with modern network services necessary for the implementation of scientific research, scientific, practical and educational issues.

According to R. Alguliyev, a working group consisting of employees of the institute was created to ensure the smooth operation of AzScienceNet. The group, working on a shift schedule, provides technical support to the center during a special quarantine period announced in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The director of the institute noted that management issues, meetings, scientific seminars and consultations are held online. In the special quarantine mode, scientific work at the institute is carried out by employees at home and in full accordance with the plan.

Institute employees are researching the issues of the 4th industrial revolution, big data analysis and data mining, information security, artificial intelligence technologies, cloud technologies, software development, e-government, e-medicine, e-education, etc.

The scientist also touched on the activities of the institute’s periodicals - the journals “Problems of Information Technologies” and “Problems of the Information Society”: “The number and quality of articles submitted to both magazines give reason to assert that their next issues will be published on time in accordance with the established schedule.”

Academician R. Alguliyev noted that classes for undergraduates have been held at the Institute of Information Technology since March 29. So, classes for first-year undergraduates of the institute are held online in accordance with the established schedule. Second-year undergraduates go through distance scientific and pedagogical practice with the participation of scientific leaders. A total of 3 specialties - computer science, computer engineering and information technology and systems - 8 people study in the master's program of the institute in the first year, and 7 people in the second year.

The academician also noted that the operation of the official website of the institute - www.ict.az - is supported remotely by responsible employees.
