An online meeting of the Presidium of ANAS was held on May 8.
Opening the event, President of ANAS, academician Ramiz Mehdiyev noted that complex measures are being taken under the direct leadership of President Ilham Aliyev to prevent the threats posed by the global coronavirus pandemic in our country. Thoughtful policies and multifaceted preventive measures in this direction are yielding positive results. The Azerbaijani model of combating coronavirus has been praised by a number of influential international organizations, including the World Health Organization.
Academician R.Mehdiyev added that despite the introduction of a special quarantine regime in the country in recent months, the work on the implementation of the tasks facing ANAS using the opportunities provided by modern information and communication technologies has been successfully continued.
The head of ANAS noted that discussions on scientific and scientific-organizational activity of the academy, as well as a number of important scientific staff appointments will be held at today's meeting.
Then the academician-secretary of ANAS, corresponding member of ANAS Aminaga Sadigov informed about the first issue on the agenda, the publication of the multi-volume "Chronicle of Independence: History of Independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan (1991-2020)". Speaking on the subject, the first vice-president of ANAS, academician Isa Habibbayli said that the complex research and publication of the history of the Republic of Azerbaijan, its socio-economic development, cultural and spiritual evolutionary processes in the years of independence on the basis of a single conceptual scientific review is the main task. From this point of view, it is necessary to prepare this multivolume at the academic level. After the discussions, it was decided to prepare and publish a multi-volume book edited by academician Ramiz Mehdiyev. The editorial board of the multi-volume, consisting of academician Ramiz Mehdiyev, academician Isa Habibbayli, academician Yagub Mahmudov and academician Ismayil Hajiyev, as well as the authors and the plan-prospectus have been approved.
The online meeting discussed the "Action Plan for 2020-2025 on the prevention of gender selection before birth," approved by the order of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated February 24, 2020. The vice-president of ANAS, academician Irada Huseynova noted that the implementation of the Action Plan, along with other organizations, set a number of tasks for the academy. In order to ensure the implementation of these tasks, the Work Plan for the relevant structures of ANAS was approved at the meeting, relevant instructions were given to the relevant agencies and individuals.
Then A. Sadigov informed about the "Report on the activities of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences in 2019." He said that the draft "Report on the activities of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences in 2019" on the basis of materials submitted by members of ANAS, scientific departments, scientific institutions, departments and divisions of the Presidium of ANAS, as well as relevant ministries prepared by the Office of Science and Education and submitted to the Presidium of ANAS for discussion. The report reflects the important results of fundamental and applied research conducted in 2019 at ANAS, as well as other scientific and educational institutions of the republic, scientific-organizational activity of the Presidium of ANAS, other indicators of the academy's activity. After extensive discussion of the issue, a relevant decision was made to approve the report, publish it and submit to the discussion of the General Meeting of ANAS.
Providing information on the results of admission to doctoral and dissertation programs of ANAS, Aminaga Sadigov noted that in accordance with the relevant legislation, the admission was successfully completed, topics covering current scientific problems in various areas for doctoral students and dissertators were identified. After the discussions, the results of admission to the doctoral and dissertation programs of ANAS on the preparation of doctors of philosophy and sciences were approved, relevant instructions were given to the heads of scientific institutions and organizations of the academy and other institutions.
It was decided to establish a public center to study and promote the centuries-old traditions of national statehood of the Azerbaijani people, the formation and development of the national idea. Academician Ramiz Mehdiyev, head of the Azerbaijan Scientific-Ideological Center, and academician Isa Habibbayli, deputy head, have been confirmed.
Other scientific and organizational issues were discussed at the event, such as the restoration of the Laboratory of Experimental Phonetic Research at the Institute of Linguistics named after Nasimi and the renaming of the journal "Scientific works of the Institute of History named after Abbasgulu Aga Bakikhanov" to "Azerbaijani historiography".
In addition, a relevant decision was made on the 100th anniversary of the outstanding representative of Azerbaijani literature, Honored Scientist, corresponding member of ANAS Aziz Mirahmadov and corresponding member of ANAS Ziyaddin Goyushov, who made special contributions to the development of Azerbaijani philosophy.
The first vice-president of ANAS, academician Ibrahim Guliyev, vice-presidents of ANAS, academicians Dilgam Tagiyev and Rasim Alguliyev took part in the discussions and voiced their opinions and proposals on the issues.
Finally, a number of staff issues were overviewed. Doctor of Technical Sciences Tarana Mammadova has been appointed Deputy Director for Science to the Institute of Petrochemical Processes of ANAS, Doctor of Chemical Sciences Afsun Sujayev to the Institute of Chemistry of Additives, Doctor of Biological Sciences Eldar Novruzov to the Institute of Botany, PhD in Agrarian Sciences Goshgar Mammadov - Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry, Doctor of Biological Sciences Shakir Gasimov to the Central Botanical Garden and PhD in Physics Ravan Mehdiyeva to the Institute of Radiation Problems.
Meanwhile, PhD in Chemistry Nizami Mursalov has been designated scientific secretary to the Institute of Petrochemical Processes, Doctor of Chemical Sciences Mina Munshiyeva to the Institute of Catalysis and Inorganic Chemistry, PhD in Chemistry Mehpara Safarova to the Institute of Chemistry of Additives, PhD in Biology Natavan Kalantarova to the Institute of Genetic Resources, PhD in Biology Yegana Bayramova to the Institute of Physiology, PhD in Philology Aynel Mashadiyeva to the Institute of Linguistics, and PhD in Physics Musa Nuriyev to the Institute of Radiation Problems.
