Within the framework of the cooperation agreement signed in 2018 between ANAS and the University of Montpellier (France), a joint doctoral program is being successfully implemented.

Under the terms of the agreement, doctoral candidates who have passed the competition receive the right to study at both organizations. After completing the training, doctoral students, having passed a single process for the defense of dissertations, will be awarded a double diploma. The first defense of joint doctoral students of ANAS and the University of Montpellier is planned in 2021.

In accordance with the requirements of the program, currently 4 doctoral students from the Azerbaijani side continue their 2-year studies at the University of Montpellier, and the 3rd year of study will be held in ANAS. In 2020, the program included 2 more doctoral students who successfully passed the competition.

But since the practice of a double diploma program at the doctoral level in Azerbaijan is being applied for the first time, it became necessary to carry out certain activities in this area.

To this end, an online meeting was held with the participation of ANAS Academician - Secretary, ANAS corresponding member Aminaga Sadigov, head of the Science and Education Office of the Presidium of ANAS, PhD in Economics Fail Kazimov and head of the External Relations Office of the Presidium, PhD in Biology Esmira Alirzayeva.

During the meeting, France’s experience on this issue, the relevant clauses of the “Regulations on the rules for awarding academic degrees” of the Higher Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan (HAC) and the possibility of their application to the joint doctoral program of ANAS and the University of Montpellier were discussed. It was decided to prepare relevant proposals and discuss them with the Higher Attestation Commission.

In addition, participants in the online meeting spoke about the successes achieved by doctoral students studying for this program and the problems they face.
