Lachin region, one of the ancient lands of the Azerbaijani people, is located on the south-western slope of the Karabakh range. Until 1926, the center of Lachin region was called Abdallar. The toponym Abdal is derived from the name Eftal or Heptal, as noted in a number of sources of the White Hun Turkic tribes. Albanian historian Musa Kalankatli notes that the Abdal Turks living in the north of Azerbaijan were the bearers of the Gam religious belief system...
