Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

Institute of Literature named after Nizami of ANAS held round table on topic “Babbling poet” dedicated to 75th anniversary of prominent figure of Azerbaijan poetry, State Laureate professor Refig Zeka Khandan.

Event by joint organization of Scientific-Methodic Center of Culture study, Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Institute of Literature was held pursuant to AR President Ilham Aliyev’s order “On holding Refig Zeka Khandan’s 75th anniversary” dated September 16, 2014.

Opening the event vice-president of ANAS director of the institute acad. Isa Habibbayli provided information about literary performance of R.Z. Khandan who was attuned and contributed to the Azerbaijan literature. Poet’s main research objects were love to motherland, admiration to historical-cultural values, Azerbaijanism and glorifying the ideas of independence.

Characterizing the poet as a representative of Romance literature of 1960-90, I. Habibbayli highlighted that, man of letters expressed Turkic opinions and love for Turkism in his works.

Later on, director of Scientific-Methodic Center of Culture study Vilayat Ismayilov said that, songs have been composed to more than 300 poems by R.Z. Khandan.

R.Z. Khandan was elected an honored academician of the Academy of Folklore in Turkey, was the winner of the International Ataturk Award, represented by the editorial staff of the Turkish literary journals.

Head of the department of literary criticism of the institute, Honored Worker of Culture, Dr. Philology Vagif Yusifli, Honored journalist Flora Khalilzadeh, head of the XX century literature department Dr. philology Shirindil Alishanli delivered lectures.

Drew to attention that, Refig Zeka is known as a author of tens of papers concerning different problems of literature and several manuals, as well as prestigious and respected researcher of literature history of the last century.

Finally, Naila Khandan, notable poet’s wife, senior lecturer of Baku Slavic University expressed her gratitude to the event organizers and attendees for care and attention to poet’s memory.
