Ecological disaster committed by Armenia in the settlements along the Araz River

The fresh water resources of the population in the Republic of Azerbaijan are mainly paid for by the Kura and Araz rivers. Both rivers originate in Turkey, pass through Georgia and Armenia, and flow into the Caspian Sea from Azerbaijan. In these countries, river water is polluted with large amounts of industrial and domestic waste. As a result of these processes lasting for years, the coastal and bottom sediments of the Kura and Araz rivers have been contaminated with chemical and radioactive waste.According to the Monitoring Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, hundreds of thousands of tons of solid acid water, heavy metal salts and other wastes of Megri, Gacharan, Gafan and Dastekert mining plants are discharged into the Araz tributary of the Oxchuchay. At times, the amount of copper in the water was 25-50 times higher than normal, and the amount of phenols was regularly 6-15 times higher than normal.

The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, made this statement at the Munich Security Conference on “Climate and Energy Security. Is warming still going on? ” "The main threat to us is that our main rivers, which supply us with water, come from neighboring countries, and especially in Armenia, the Araz River is very polluted," he said. This is a danger for all of us. "Despite all our appeals to stop the pollution of the river, unfortunately, Armenia continues this policy."

Another source of danger to public health can be the consequences of natural disasters. Another source of pollution for the population living in these areas is natural disasters - floods...
