Monograph Titled “The First Turkological Congress and the Process of Pan-Turkic Terminology Formation” Published

The monograph “The First Turkological Congress and the Process of Pan-Turkic Terminology Formation” by Professor Sayali Sadigova, Head of the Terminology Department at the Institute of Linguistics named after Nasimi of ANAS, has been published.

The monograph identifies the reasons for convening the First Turkological Congress, its scientific and historical significance, the directions of the formation of the terminological system, the process of term creation in Turkic languages, the sources of term formation, and the ways borrowed terms enter languages. It also defines the theoretical foundations of common terminology and the process of term adoption. The necessity of defining terms based on specific definitions at the First Turkological Congress, the relationship between a term and a concept, the criteria that distinguish it from other notions, and its naming principles, as well as issues related to the hierarchical structure of domain concepts in definitions, are explained with scientific evidence.

The monograph also examines theoretical and practical issues related to the First Turkological Congress and the development of terminological lexicography, common terminology in Turkic languages, the creation of shared terms, and the principles, sources, and methods of forming common international terms.

The rules for compiling terminological dictionaries in Turkic languages, the methods of presenting terms in dictionaries, their principles, organizational aspects, and the requirements imposed on them are extensively discussed in the monograph.
